A Lavandeira

Self-service laundry, Porto

The concept is not new. At least, back at your hometown or in some american movies. But in downtown Porto the idea is completely new and hadn’t been achieved yet. At least, until March of 2013. After that, this store is a point of arrival, of departure and, in between, also a point of laundry.

We’re talking about A Lavandeira, a self-service laundry in Rua da Conceição. If you were worried about your dirty clothes and looking for a place to wash them while in town, here is the answer. The space is small but the machines are enough for all your clothes. From 8 to 13kg, their capacity equals your needs. For 4,90€ (8kg) or 8,90€ (13kg) your clothes will be clean in 30 minutes or one hour, depending on the chosen program of washing.

If you are planning to use this service more often, it’s probably a good idea to get the loyalty card: for 5€ you will get an exclusive 20% discount each time you wash your clothes.

Right now, you’re probably looking for your clock, thinking about the time you have to waste during the service. Well, don’t worry! After choosing the program, the machine starts and there’s no turning point or possibility to open it, until if finishes. Even the owners, who are often crossing the store and explaining, with a big smile, the machines functions and working, suggests to costumers that they should go for a walk, as their clothes will be safe.

Beyond your clothes you don’t need to bring anything else: detergent, softener and disinfectant are included. And ff you don’t have a place to dry your clothes, try the drier machines: for a plus 1,50€ and 15 minutes your clothes are almost ready to wear!

If you don’t want to go for a walk, you can just relax in the chairs and enjoy the free Wi-Fi. However, we suggest you take a look at the two doors down BD store Timtim por Timtim or have a coffee at Candelabro, an iconic place that is great to rest for a while in a pleasant environment. But keep an eye on the clock to control the laundry time!

The store is open from 8:30am to 10pm. The payment station is easy to use, with a 4 language menu to help you (English, French, Spanish and Portuguese).
